Town Missions

When heroes go wandering around on the map they may enter a town that you do not have planned out.
Spice things up by providing them with a random mission.

Roll on the table to find a problem for our heroes to resolve.


Roll Mission
1 A banshee has been spotted wailing near the old abandoned mill at night. Villagers are convinced it’s an omen of death and refuse to go near it.
2 A group of mischievous pixies have moved into the forest near town. They’ve been playing tricks and pranks on travelers through the woods.
3 The town’s best hunter hasn’t returned for days after going after a giant boar in the forest. Search parties find only scattered traces of blood.
4 A traveling merchant came into town trying to sell “dragon eggs”. The eggs hatched overnight releasing baby wyverns which burnt down the inn.
5 A vampire has taken up residence in the basement of the town chapel. Church attendance has dropped to zero at night due to reports of blood drained victims.
6 The rickety old bridge leading into town finally collapsed under the weight of a merchant’s wagon. There’s no other way into town and supplies are running low.
7 The town hall’s basement was flooded during the last storm. A few days later horrific wailing noises started echoing from below at night.
8 A woman was gathering herbs in the forest when she was bitten by a werewolf. She seems fine during the day but terrified she’ll turn at the next full moon.
9 A traveling circus came to town. The knife thrower and fire eater quit unexpectedly. The circus needs help finding replacements before the next show.
10 Every night ghostly figures reenact a battle in the town square. The townsfolk are unable to get any sleep. Heroes must discover why this is happening and help the spirits find rest.
11 The town’s best artisan craftsmen have been placed under a curse that makes them only able to sculpt dragons and talk about gold hoards. Discover a way to lift the curse so that some work can get done.
12 A disguised hag has kidnapped several of the town’s children and taken them to her gingerbread cottage deep in the woods.
13 The mayor’s prized pet falcon was bird-napped in the middle of the night. There was a ransom note left demanding gold and jewels.
14 A treant has awoken in the woods after a 100 year slumber. It is convinced the nearby town is encroaching on its grove and wants the town moved immediately.
15 Strange symbols have been carved into trees around the nearby forest. Faint demonic chanting can also be heard at night occasionally.
16 A giant sinkhole opened up in a farmer’s field after an earthquake. Strange slurping sounds can be heard coming from the hole at night.
17 The ghost of a knight on horseback appears in the town square every year on the anniversary of a great battle. Animals panic and townsfolk hide inside.
18 A scholar came to town to investigate some newly discovered ancient ruins near a hillside cave. She hasn’t been seen in days.
19 The town tavern’s bartender quit suddenly. He left a note warning that a barrel full of explosive ale needs disposed of.
20 A thieves’ guild has set up operations in tunnels under the town’s streets. Homes and shops have reported burglaries and vandalism at night.
